Tarigami Urges Centre to Grant Bail to Shabir Shah on Humanitarian Grounds Amid Health Deterioration
Senior CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami has made an urgent appeal to the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, seeking humanitarian intervention in the case of incarcerated Kashmiri leader Shabir Ahmad Shah. Citing Shah’s deteriorating health, advanced age, and multiple comorbidities, Tarigami has called for bail to be granted so that proper pre- and post-operative medical care can be administered in a stable and family-supported environment.
In a public statement, Tarigami stressed the critical nature of Shah’s condition and emphasized the need for immediate relief:
“In view of the deteriorating health of Shabir Shah, and considering his advanced age and multiple comorbidities, it is imperative that he be granted bail so his family can provide the necessary pre- and post-operative care in a stable and supportive environment.”
Pending a decision on bail, Tarigami has suggested that placing Shah under house arrest could be considered as an interim measure on humanitarian grounds to ensure access to adequate medical treatment.
He further appealed to the Home Minister to exercise compassion and consider precedents where bail was granted in similar medical circumstances:
“Earnestly requesting Hon’ble Home Minister Shri @AmitShah to kindly consider intervening—within his capacity—for a humane resolution, given the serious health concerns involved.”
The appeal adds to the growing chorus of voices urging the government to uphold humanitarian values in cases involving critical medical conditions of prisoners.
