Severe Irrigation Water Shortage Hits Paddy Fields in Anantnag, Kulgam

Kulgam, June 20: A severe shortage of irrigation water has left hundreds of acres of paddy fields dry across Anantnag and Kulgam districts, causing deep concern among farmers as the agricultural season reaches a critical phase.

Villages including Sherpora, Frisal, Wapora, Chinnigam, Kujar, Khudwani, Hassanpora, and Kharpora are witnessing vast stretches of parched farmland due to the lack of adequate irrigation.

“This is the peak time for paddy cultivation, but many of our fields have not received a drop of water,” said a distressed farmer from Frisal, warning of possible total crop loss.

The crisis has been attributed to rising temperatures and depleted water sources. Executive Engineer Irrigation Division Kulgam, Parvaz Ahmad Naik, confirmed the shortage and said efforts are underway to address the issue.(KNS)
