J&K stands in solidarity, protests against Pahalgam terror attack

Srinagar, Apr 23: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday witnessed widespread protests following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 tourists dead and many injured.

As per the details available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), solidarity protests were carried across the Jammu and Kashmir, with people condemning the killings.

Protests were held in Srinagar, Sopore, Tangmarg, Baramulla, Handwara, Bandipora, Kupwara, and other parts of the Valley. Several protests were witnessed in Jammu region as well.

“This is not just a terror attack – it’s the murder of Kashmiriyat, said a protestor in Tangmarg, adding that “killing our guests is unforgivable. We want the killers be brought to justice and the peace of our land restored”.

26 tourists including a local horse rider were killed after terrorists opened fire at a group of tourists in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon.

The left the entire nation in shock with people across abroad condemning the attack. The attack also evoked widespread condemnation from across the globe with countries like the US, Russia, Iran, France, UK and others expressing solidarity with India.

Soon after the attack Home Minister Amit Shah landed in Srinagar to chair a high-level meeting with all security agencies. He was also brief by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about the incident.

Today, he along with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid tributes to the victims at PCR Batamaloo, following which he left for Pahalgam to visit the terror attack site.

Meanwhile, PM Modi also cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia. He also skipped the official dinner hosted by Saudi Arabia and returned to India today early morning. Soon after arriving in India, PM Modi was briefed about the incident by EAM S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval—(KNO)
