Kashmir Parts Shake Early Morning As Strong 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan

Srinagar, Apr 16 : A strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck northeast of Kabul, Afghanistan, during the early hours of Wednesday, with tremors felt across parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the National Centre for Seismology as per news agency JKNS, the quake occurred at 4:43 AM IST with its epicentre located at latitude 35.83°N and longitude 70.60°E, at a depth of 75 kilometers.

The epicentre was situated in Hindu Kush, Afghanistan with the Lat 35.83 and Long 70.60 with Depth of 75km.

Tremors were felt in, 190 km northeast of Kabul, 327 km northwest of Islamabad, 343 km south-southeast of Dushanbe, 397 km west-northwest of Gulmarg, and 428 km west-northwest of Srinagar.

While no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received from J&K. Reports from parts of north Kashmir and central areas said they experienced moderate tremors lasting a few seconds.
