Div Com Kashmir Emphasizes Heritage, Infrastructure and Pilgrimage Preparedness

Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, VK Bidhuri, on Saturday underscored the administration’s dual commitment to preserving the Valley’s cultural legacy while accelerating infrastructure development, stating that both heritage and modernity form the foundation of Kashmir’s ongoing growth narrative.

Addressing reporters, Bidhuri said the Valley’s traditional arts, crafts, and cultural richness continue to command global admiration. “A person who isn’t proud of their roots cannot truly grow. Staying connected with our heritage is essential,” he remarked, while speaking about the recently concluded North Zone Cultural Centre program held in the region. He emphasized that the government is actively promoting and supporting local folk arts and crafts.

Shifting focus to religious events, Bidhuri announced that this year’s Shri Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9. “Preparations are in full swing to ensure a safe and smooth Yatra. For the first time, the railway will be playing a key support role, and appropriate logistics are being arranged,” he said.

The Divisional Commissioner also stated that Deputy Commissioners have been directed to gear up for other major religious occasions, including Muharram and various local festivals, with special attention being paid to Gurudwaras and key religious landmarks.

On the development front, Bidhuri provided an update on ongoing infrastructure works. “Three bridges have been completed so far, and construction on the Sanat Nagar bridge is progressing steadily,” he said. He reassured that project quality is being closely monitored by both the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department. “No major lapses have been reported so far, but if any arise, corrective action will be immediate,” he added.

Regarding student safety, Bidhuri revealed that steps are being taken to install CCTV cameras in school buses, with the Transport and Education Departments working together to implement the initiative within a defined timeline. (CNS)
