Bodies of Drowned Uri Residents Returned Via Kaman Post

Uri: The administration of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Saturday handed over the bodies of two individuals ( boy and a girl) via the Kaman Post bridge in Uri.

Officials told GNS that the two had jumped into river Jhelum nearly 18 days ago.The deceased have been identified as Yasir Hussain Shah, son of Mooz Ali Shah, a resident of Busgran, Uri, and Asiya Bano, daughter of Mohabat Khan, a resident of Kundi Barjala, Uri.

Officials told GNS that the boy’s body was spotted near Kaman Post along the Line of Control (LoC) floating in the river on March 20.

“Police and rescue teams attempted to retrieve it, but due to strong currents, it drifted to the other side of the border,” an official said.

The boy’s body was eventually retrieved from Chinari on Thursday evening, while the girl’s body had crossed to the other side of the LoC earlier and was recovered at Chattar on March 19.

Officials said the matter was taken up with the administration on the other side of the LoC. “Today, a meeting was held at Kaman Post, Uri, where officials from the Uri administration including SDPO Uri, SHO Uri, Naib,Tehsildar and a team of doctors, Indian Army and parents of deceased and their counterparts from the other side were present. The Uri administration has now received both bodies , who had been washed away across the LoC,” an official said.

They said after medico-legal formalities bodies will be handed over to their families.

It is important to mention that both individuals had been missing for more than two weeks after they jumped into river Jhelum in Dulanja village along the LoC on March 5.(GNS)
