Honouring the Legacy of Hazrat Fatima Al-Zahra (RA)

Mirwaiz’s Sermon at Khanqah of Naqshband Sahab Highlights the Dignity and Rights Islam Grants to Women

Srinagar: In connection with the observance of the Youm-e-Wisal of Hazrat Fatima Al-Zahra (RA), the beloved daughter of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), a sermon was delivered by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at the revered Khanqah of Naqshband Sahab in Khwaja Bazaar today.

Mirwaiz said that as we mark the death anniversary of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (RA), we reflect on the honour and dignity Islam has bestowed upon women. Hazrat Fatima (RA) was a symbol of faith, strength, and virtue, and her life reminds us of the elevated status Islam grants to women—It granted them rights unheard of in that era, giving them rights to choose their spouse, to retain their identity, right to education, inheritance, and respect.

However, he said when we look at our society today, we see how far we have strayed from these teachings. Many women are still denied their rightful share of inheritance, and the birth of a girl is often seen as a burden rather than a blessing. Even more alarming is the persistence of domestic violence, which has no place in Islam. The Prophet (SAW) said, “The best of you are those who are best to their wives.” Oppression and injustice within our homes must end, stressed the Mirwaiz.

He urged that it is time for us to reflect and change our attitudes. Let us honour the legacy of Hazrat Fatima (RA) by ensuring that women receive their due rights with dignity and respect. May Allah guide us to act justly and uphold the true teachings of Islam.
