Rain and Snowfall Disrupt Life Across J&K, Improvement Expected from February 28 Afternoon

Srinagar:Jammu and Kashmir witnessed widespread rain and snowfall over the past 24 hours, impacting daily life and transportation across the region. According to the Meteorological (MeT) Centre Srinagar, light to moderate rain and snow were reported at most places, with heavy rainfall recorded in Banihal and heavy snowfall in isolated higher reaches.
The MeT department has predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and snow across most areas of Jammu and Kashmir on February 27 and 28. Isolated heavy rain and snow are also expected during this period. However, weather conditions are likely to improve by the afternoon of February 28.
Looking ahead, the forecast for March 1-2 indicates generally cloudy skies with light rain or snow at isolated to scattered locations. On March 3, light to moderate rain and snow are expected at many places, while March 4-8 is likely to remain generally dry.
Temporary disruptions are anticipated on key routes, including Sadhna Pass, Razdhan Pass, Sonamarg-Zojila-Gumri axis, Mughal Road, Sinthan Pass, and other major roads in hilly districts.
Travelers are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and follow traffic advisories issued by local authorities.
Tourists and transport operators have been advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
Farmers have been requested to suspend irrigation activities and other farm operations until the weather stabilizes.
Vulnerable areas may experience landslides, mudslides, or shooting stones due to the wet weather, posing additional risks.
The MeT Centre has urged residents to remain cautious during this period of inclement weather. Travelers are advised to stay informed about road conditions before embarking on journeys in hilly areas. (KNS)
