2 day workshop on Crime Scene Management begins at J&K FSL

Srinagar: A two day workshop on crime scene management, in view of the new criminal laws, commenced today at the Jammu & Kashmir Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

The workshop aims to enhance awareness and skills related to the latest criminal laws and best practices for crime scene management.

The event focuses on leveraging advanced forensic services in crime scene investigations, with participation from officials of all District Mobile Forensic Units and other forensic experts.

In his address, Director FSL, Gurmukh Singh, emphasised the critical role of forensic science in crime scene management. He highlighted the ongoing infrastructural and human resource upgrades in District Mobile Forensic Units across J&K, including procurement of high tech mobile vans equipped with 15 on site testing kits to facilitate real time crime scene analysis.

Deputy Director and Officer-in-Charge, FSL Srinagar, Syed Ishfaq Manzoor, shed light on the importance of the new criminal laws and their implications. He specifically referenced Section 176 (3) BNSS of 2023, which mandates the presence of forensic experts in all crimes carrying a penalty of more than seven years. He also discussed various other legal provisions related to forensic science’s role in criminal justice.

The workshop’s coordinator, Sheikh Suheel (Scientific Officer), provided an in-depth introduction to the principles and practices of effective crime scene management.

This workshop would further strengthen the state’s forensic capabilities and ensure that J&K’s law enforcement personnel are equipped to handle evolving challenges in crime investigation.
