Srinagar:  The Jammu and Kashmir Police is considering to restore the security cover for Mirwaiz Umar Farooq following his recent engagements in New Delhi, including discussions with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 , meeting with prominent civil society members and religious leaders including AIMUM Chief Asad ud Din Owasi, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mehmood Madni, Delhi Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari, Ameer of the Tablighi Jamaat Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, and Mufti Mukarram Ahmed of the Fatehpuri Masjid and an outreach to migrant Kashmiri Pandits

According to official sources, Mirwaiz’s two-week visit to Delhi sparked speculations from various quarters raising concerns about his security

Authorities have taken note of online threats directed at him after these interactions, particularly his outreach to the Kashmiri Pandit community. Based on this assessment, the police have decided to reinstate his security cover which was withdrawn in 2019 .(KNS)
