New Delhi: Union Minister of Space, Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing its leadership of refusing to acknowledge the government’s decision to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Singh expressed disappointment over Congress leaders’ reaction during President Droupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament, where she announced the Modi government’s plans to commemorate the legacy of India’s first Home Minister.
“Could there be greater shame for the Congress party than refusing to applaud the Rashtrapati’s announcement?” Singh wrote, highlighting Patel’s role in India’s integration and his sacrifice in stepping aside for Jawaharlal Nehru to become the first Prime Minister. He accused the Congress leadership of being unable to hide their “venomous contempt” for Patel, even as the rest of the House welcomed the announcement with applause.
Singh’s remarks come amid ongoing political debates over Sardar Patel’s legacy, with the BJP frequently contrasting his contributions with those of the Nehru-Gandhi family. His criticism also adds to the broader political friction between the ruling party and the Congress ahead of the upcoming elections. (CNS)
