AIP Workers Detained in Srinagar During Hunger Strike for Er Rashid’s Release

Srinagar: Several Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) workers were detained on Friday while attempting to stage a day-long hunger strike in Srinagar, demanding the release of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid.

The protest was initially planned at Pratap Park in Lal Chowk but was denied permission by district authorities. As a result, AIP members gathered at Sangarmal Shopping Complex, where police were already present. The protesters, including Rashid’s son Abrar, were taken into custody and shifted to Kothibagh Police Station.

Before being detained, Abrar criticized the government’s decision to prevent his father from attending Parliament, calling it a “murder of democracy.

” He stated that Rashid has been imprisoned for over five years and is now being denied his democratic rights.

The AIP had organized the hunger strike to show solidarity with Rashid, who had begun an indefinite hunger strike in Tihar Jail.

Commenting on the situation, former MLA Langate Sheikh Khurshid stated that party leaders were detained by the police, and AIP will decide on its next course of action only after their release. (KNS)
