
Srinagar: Shab-e-Meraj was observed with religious fervour at various mosques and shrines across the Kashmir Valley.
Thousands of devotees thronged to Hazratbal Shrine on the bank of Dal Lake from across the Kashmir Valley to participate in the nightlong prayers on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, and the holy relic was displayed before the devotees after the prayers.
Several mosques and shrines were illuminated on the occasion of Shab-e-Meraj which is celebrated on 27th of Rajab as per the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, and Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) ascended to the highest levels of the heavens on this night.
The authorities had made elaborate arrangements at the Hazratbal and other places in the Kashmir Valley for the devotees for smooth prayers.
The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, besides other religious and political leaders, greeted the people on the occasion.
