CUK to host winter sports event in Gulmarg: 27 Universities, 169 athletes to participate: VC

Srinagar: The Central University of Kashmir announced on Tuesday that it will host the All India Inter-University Winter Sports event in Gulmarg on January 30-31.

In a press conference held at the DIPR Complex, Poloview Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir, as per news gathering agency KINS, said that the All India Inter-University Winter Sports event will be organised in Gulmarg from January 30 to 31. He said that sponsored by the Association of Indian Universities, the event will feature 27 universities, with 169 athletes, coaches, and managers participating.

Prof. Nath emphasized the importance of this event in putting Kashmir further on the map as a winter sports destination, enhancing both the university’s national identity and the region’s winter tourism potential.

The second focus of the conference was the introduction of the Common University Entrance Test for postgraduate programs, with the application deadline fast approaching on February 1.

VC Prof. Nath urged Jammu and Kashmir students to take part in this national-level exam, which offers access to 48 central universities across the country.

The Participants of the press conference also highlighted the reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on creating a learner-centric education system.

They outlined the university’s focus on preparing students for higher education, employment, and entrepreneurship, with the new motto “Educate, Enrich, Empower.”

Prof. Nath mentioned ongoing infrastructure developments at the university, including new hostels and academic buildings, which are expected to be completed within 24-36 months.

The university is also introducing nine new academic best practices, which will be shared with faculty and stakeholders shortly.

Prof. Nath expressed hope that such events would contribute to Kashmir’s growth as a hub for winter sports and education.(KINS)
