Thousands Gather in Sonamarg for Prime Minister Modi’s Visit and Z-Morh Tunnel Inauguration

Sonamarg: The serene landscape of Sonamarg transformed into a vibrant sea of colors today as tens of thousands of enthusiastic supporters gathered to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The highly anticipated visit, set for noon, revolves around the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel, a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity and promoting tourism in the region.
As the hour of Modi’s arrival drew nearer, the fervor among the crowd grew. Children waved flags, families posed for photographs, and the sounds of laughter filled the air, encapsulating the spirit of a community united in hope.
Local residents and supporters lined the streets, their faces alight with excitement as they waved flags and held up banners emblazoned with slogans of support for the Prime Minister. The area was adorned with colorful decorations, setting a festive mood that reflected the hopes and aspirations of the people.
I have been waiting here since early morning!” exclaimed Tabasum Jan, a local resident of Gund said. She said the Z-Morh tunnel will change our lives. It will make travel easier and open up new opportunities for trade and tourism in Sonamarg. We are so proud to have our Prime Minister here today.
The Z-Morh tunnel, which will link the Srinagar-Leh highway, is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the regions and provide a vital all-weather route. With heavy snowfall often blocking the roads during winter, the tunnel holds the promise of improved accessibility, which is crucial for the local economy and tourism.
Seeing the enthusiastic crowd, Tariq Ahmad Sheikh shared his hopes for the future. This project is not just about infrastructure; it represents growth for our area. We’ve suffered from isolation in winter and now we have the chance to flourish. The visit of Prime Minister Modi is a testament to the government’s support for us, he said.
The local administration reported that extensive preparations had been made to ensure the event went smoothly. Traffic management strategies and security protocols were implemented to accommodate the large influx of visitors and ensure the safety of attendees.
The significance of the Z-Morh tunnel is a culmination of years of effort, launched to break the cycle of seasonal isolation that has long affected the region. As support for the project rises and local leaders resonate with the vision of connectivity, locals are eager to see its realization. (CNS)
