Kashmir: Weather improves after snowfall

Srinagar: The weather is gradually improving after fresh snowfall in the Kashmir Valley The tourist destinations of the valley including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Doodh Pathri, including the hilly areas, received heavy snowfall in the last 24 hours, while the plains received moderate snowfall.
According to reports, one and a half feet of snow has been recorded in Sonamarg in the last 24 hours, while Doodh Pathri and Pir Ki Gali have accumulated one foot of snow each. Srinagar has recorded 2 to 3 inches of snow in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, MeT Official said that, the weather in the valley may remain generally cloudy on January 6 and there may be snowfall at some places during this time, but the weather is likely to improve after the afternoon. He said that the weather in the valley is expected to remain generally dry from January 7 to 10. He said that later on January 11 and 12, the weather in the valley is likely to remain cloudy with light snowfall at some places, while rains are expected in the plains of Jammu. He said that the weather in the valley is likely to remain generally dry once again from January 13 to 15.
The department said in its advisory that due to slippery roads in some hilly areas of the valley, ground transport movement may be disrupted. Passengers and transporters have been asked to plan their journeys as per the traffic advisory. Meanwhile, the night temperature has improved in most parts of the valley due to cloudy weather. The minimum temperature in the summer capital Srinagar was recorded at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees Celsius above normal.
