Srinagar: The Cyber Police Kashmir Zone, Srinagar, marked a successful year in 2024, recovering an impressive ₹4.72 crore defrauded from victims of online scams and returning the money to its rightful owners.
In a statement issued to Asian Mail, Cyber Police official said that during this year, the Cyber Police registered 30 First Information Reports (FIRs), with 10 cases charge-sheeted and presented before the courts for judicial determination. The unit also resolved 577 complaints filed through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) and addressed 1,700 miscellaneous grievances, demonstrating its commitment to prompt public service.
He said that taking action against cyber fraud, the Cyber Police tracked and deactivated 1,833 fake SIM cards linked to online crimes. Additionally, 150 stolen mobile phones, worth lakhs of rupees, were recovered and restored to their rightful owners.
Cyber Police focused on raising public awareness. Numerous workshops were organized in educational institutions and government offices, educating people about emerging cyber threats and promoting online safety practices, reads the statement.
