57 people killed in road traffic accidents this year in Srinagar: SSP traffic Sgr

Srinagar: Road safety continues to be a growing concern in Srinagar, with 4 lakh traffic challans issued this year alone and a tragic toll of 57 lives lost in road traffic accidents.

The figures, released by traffic police, underline the city’s increasing unsafe driving practices.

A significant portion of the challans were issued for violations such as speeding, driving without helmets, and ignoring traffic signals, which have been identified as key contributors to the growing number of accidents.

SSP Traffic Srinagar, Muzaffar Ahmed Shah, as per news gathering agency KINS said, “Despite the issuance of 4 lakh challans this year, the number of accidents and fatalities remains alarmingly high. This is a clear indication that road safety awareness and enforcement need to be further strengthened. We must work together to change the mindset of drivers and ensure that traffic rules are followed meticulously.”

He said that traffic police are committed to intensify efforts to curb road accidents by increasing patrols, improving signage, and conducting public awareness programs.

The authorities are also considering a review of traffic regulations to ensure that the city’s growing traffic volume can be managed safely and efficiently. (KINS)
