Pattan traders federation protest over ‘unscheduled’ power cuts, block Srinagar-Baramulla highway

Srinagar: Traders Federation Pattan on Tuesday held a protest over prolonged and frequent power cuts in the area. The protest led to halting of traffic movement on Srinagar-Baramulla highway, causing inconvenience to commuters

Nasir Bashir, president of the traders federation, told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that despite being a metered area, Pattan receives only a few hours of electricity.

He said that they have raised the issue repeatedly with concerned officials, but no action has been taken

Another protester said that they receive just 2-3 hours of electricity in a day. “This is nothing short of harassment. The government must address this issue immediately”, he said.

Tehsildar Haroon Rashid, who reached at the protest site to pacify the demonstrators, assured them that the issue would be raised with higher authorities and that efforts would be made to restore electricity supply as per the schedule—(KNO)
