51 transformers damaged in a day, KPDCL faces uphill battle with repairs

Power utility restores 35 units within 24 hours, urges consumers to use electricity judiciously to prevent overloads
Srinagar: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has revealed noteworthy strain on its infrastructure, with 51 distribution transformers (DTs) reported damaged in a single day across the Kashmir Division.
According to details shared by the official account of the MD, KPDCL that they managed to repair and restore 35 of these transformers within the same day. However, 16 units remain at various stages of repair and reclamation.
The details said, the repairs are being carried out at the Central Workshop in Pampore and other divisional workshops. Officials highlighted that repairing and replacing damaged transformers within set timelines remains one of KPDCL’s biggest challenges.
Meanwhile, officials have urged residents to use electricity judiciously and avoid overloading local transformers with unsanctioned power loads to prevent further disruptions.
Additionally, KPDCL has issued a strong appeal to consumers to protect transformers by adhering to power usage guidelines, stressing the shared responsibility of maintaining uninterrupted supply during the winter months.
