‘Over one lakh individuals have crossed marriage age limit’ Dawoodi expresses concern over Kashmir’s marriage crisis

Srinagar, Nov 26,: Renowned cleric Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi Tuesday expressed concern over the prevailing marriage crisis in Kashmir Valley. He said that over one lakh individuals, including boys and girls, have crossed the marriage age limit and are struggling to find suitable partners due to various socio-economic factors.

Dawoodi attributed this crisis to multiple reasons, primarily blaming the wealthy elite for introducing extravagant customs that burden poor families.

Moulana Dawoodi told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that poor families are the worst affected, as they cannot afford the rising costs associated with marriages. He said that society’s indifference and lack of concern exacerbate the issue, while the government’s assistance to poor families is inadequate and ineffective.

Dawoodi, however, appreciated some organizations for their efforts in helping poor individuals get married but stressed that wealthy citizens must take responsibility and provide support.

The cleric identified unemployment as a significant contributor to the marriage crisis. He urged respectable citizens to move beyond mere sermons and take concrete actions to address the issue.

He said there is a need for a collective effort to tackle Kashmir’s marriage crisis and ensure that all individuals have access to a dignified and secure future. [KNT]
