Principal District & Session Judge Srinagar chairs 3rd Quarterly UTRC meeting

Committee meticulously reviews recommended cases

Srinagar: As per the UTRC meeting schedule issued by National Legal Services Authority for the year 2024, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, held its third quarterly Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting on Thursday in the office chamber of the Principal District & Session Judge (Chairman DLSA) Srinagar.

The meeting, chaired by Jaffer Hussain Beg, Principal District & Session Judge (Chairman DLSA) Srinagar, brought together key stakeholders from the judiciary, administration, police and medical fraternity to address the crucial issue of ensuring fair and expedited trials for under trial prisoners.

The committee meticulously reviewed nine cases, engaging in thorough discussions and deliberations to understand the specific circumstances of each individual. Through thoughtful consideration, the committee formulated tailored recommendations aimed at expediting the judicial process and upholding the principles of equity and justice.

Jaffer Hussain Beg, highlighting the importance of UTRC gatherings, emphasized their role in safeguarding the rights of under trial prisoners and strengthening the criminal justice system. He underscored the need for consistent initiatives like these to ensure a fair and efficient legal process for all.

The meeting was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Nusrat Ali Hakak, Sub-Judge/Secretary DLSA Srinagar; Dr. Khalid Hussain Malik, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar; Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, SSP, Central Jail Srinagar; Shabir Ahmed Khan, S.P South; Meena Gowhar, Public Prosecuting Officer, Srinagar; Dr. Zeenat, Sr. Medical Officer, Central Jail Srinagar; Saad Ganie, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Srinagar and Zulfi Tasneem, Deputy Legal Aid Counsel Srinagar.

DLSA Srinagar remains committed to upholding the rights of under trial prisoners, ensuring that they receive fair and speedy trials. The UTRC meetings are a testament to this commitment and a crucial step towards achieving this goal.
