Omar pays Homage: Visits Grandfather’s Grave and  Hazratbal shrine Ahead of Oath Ceremony

Srinagar: Omar Abdullah will take the oath as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in a ceremony in Srinagar, marking the first elected government since the abrogation of Article 370.

Abdullah aims to restore statehood and address community concerns. Political leaders from various parties are expected to attend the event.

Before the ceremony, Abdullah offered floral tributes at the Mazar-e-Anwar of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, his grandfather and the first Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He also visited the Hazratbal Shrine where he prayed for the peace & prosperity of Jammu & Kashmir.

After his prayers, Abdullah emphasized the responsibilities of his government, stating, “We have to give people hope that this is their government and they will be heard. They have not been heard for the last 5-6 years.”

He acknowledged his previous role as the last Chief Minister to complete a full six-year term and expressed hope for the temporary status of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory.

He indicated a desire to work with the government of India to resolve local issues, starting with the restoration of statehood.

The oath-taking ceremony will occur at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre, with J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administering the oath to Abdullah and his council of ministers.(KNS)
