Legends Cricket League: Bakshi Stadium witnesses historic turnout of women

‘Never thought I would be cheering from stands, feels like a dream come true’

Srinagar: Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar witnessed an extraordinary scene as women turned out in large numbers to watch live cricket matches from the Legends Cricket League.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), this marks the first time in decades that the stadium was packed with a huge presence of female spectators, which indicates a shift in societal norms regarding women attending sporting events.

While the crowd remained predominantly male, women displayed great enthusiasm and interest in the game and were eagerly cheering for their favourite teams.

Ayesha, one of the female spectators, expressed her excitement: “I’ve always watched cricket at home, but being at the stadium with thousands of others is a different experience. It feels empowering to be a part of this.”

Another fan, Sadaf, said, “It is amazing to finally see live cricket here. I never thought I would be cheering from the stands, but today feels like a dream come true.”

Saba, a college student, said, “This is a big moment for us. Women can now enjoy sports just as much as men, and it is wonderful to be part of this change.”

The Southern Superstars have secured their spot in the finals of the Legends League Cricket 2024, which added to the excitement of the event.
