Er. Rashid Leads Night Demonstration in Handwara Against ‘High-Handedness’, ‘Bureaucratic Terrorism’

Handwara: The Member of Parliament for Baramulla Constituency and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) President Engineer Rashid accused Handwara’s civil administration and police of “high-handedness” and termed the conduct of the former with people as “bureaucratic terrorism” during a night demonstration outside the Police District Headquarters Handwara.

As per the news agency CNS, the peaceful demonstration, led by Engineer Rashid, included his party workers and supporters, who while raising slogans marched towards the Police District Headquarters Handwara on intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

Expressing his discontent over an alleged authoritarian behaviour of district police and civil administration, Engineer Rashid, before a senior police officer and other officials, recounted them of an incident in which police had bludgeoned some boys outside an ITI in the district.

“The job of police personnel is to provide protection and not to be an agent of anyone…,” Engineer Rashid said.

He also accused Handwara’s civil administration of harassing the locals and said that they have enforced a “bureaucratic terrorism”. “I will stand for my people come what may… I was not intending to come here at this time but I felt compelled,” AIP President added.

He also urged the police and civil administration to have mercy on the people by discontinuing their existing modus operandi.
