Jammu saffronised as BJP win majority of seats

Jammu : As the Kashmir valley has reposed faith in National Conference (NC), Jammu has however gone towards Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) where it emerged victorious from majority of the seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections for which the results were declared on Tuesday.

Barring a few seats, most of the seats of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur district have been won by the saffron party.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), out of the eight seats of three districts of Chenab valley, BJP has managed to win four seats but in Pir Panjal region, the saffron party has won only one seat which is Kalakote-Sunderbani. Even the BJP Union Territory President Ravinder Raina lost his seat from Nowshera to NC’s Surinder Choudhary.

All the three seats of Poonch district have gone to NC as Poonch-Haveli and Mendhar seats have gone to their tally whereas Surankote has been won by former NC leader Choudhary Muhammad Akram, who was contesting as an independent candidate.

Out of the 11 seats of Jammu district, former Congressman Satish Sharma, who is the son of late Congress leader and Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, has won from Chhamb seat from where he defeated BJP’s Rajeev Sharma and Congress party’s Tara Chand. It will be interesting to know where he will go now.

One of the most interesting contests was on Doda seat from where Aam Aadmi Party managed to open the account as its leader and DDC member Mehraj Malik has defeated leader from BJP, NC, DPAP and Congress.
