Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s Detention Hearing Scheduled for Oct 4

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has scheduled a hearing for October 4, 2024, regarding Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s house arrest, which has been in place for the past month.

According to a statement which reads that Dr.Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq had earlier filed a writ petition no.2400/2024 in the Hon’ble Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh High court which had been listed in November 2024.

Mirwaiz was again placed under detention without formal orders, infringing on his fundamental rights, including religious freedom.

He filed another petition (CMP No. 5884/2024) with an urgency memo, now listed for hearing on October 4, 2024. It is hoped that the High Court will provide relief to Farooq, upholding laws of natural justice and human rights enshrined in the Constitution.

An appeal has been made to the legal community, political organizations, and human rights groups to condemn this blatant violation of Farooq’s fundamental rights, reads the statement further.
