In a statement, GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi emphasized the need to protect civilians, exercise restraint, and prevent further conflict expansion. The GCC reaffirmed its consistent support for the Lebanese people, sovereignty, security, and stability.
The council’s appeal comes after the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) launched precision strikes on Beirut, resulting in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The GCC States reiterated their support for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which emphasizes Israel’s respect for Lebanon’s borders and the Lebanese government’s authority over its territory.
“The GCC stands firmly behind the Lebanese people and reiterates its commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability,” Al-Budaiwi said. “We urge all parties to exercise restraint and work towards a peaceful resolution.”
The GCC’s statement echoes growing international concerns over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. Diplomatic efforts are underway to broker a peaceful resolution and prevent further escalation.
