Gaza Strip Devastation: Two-Thirds of Buildings Damaged or Destroyed

A recent report from the United Nations reveals that approximately 66% of the Gaza Strip’s structures have been damaged or destroyed since the conflict began in October 2023. This staggering figure translates to 163,778 buildings.

Damage Assessment:

1. Destroyed: 52,564 structures
2. Severely Damaged: 18,913
3. Possibly Damaged: 35,591
4. Moderately Affected: 56,710

Gaza City has been particularly affected, with 36,611 structures destroyed.

The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization reports a 68% decline in the health and density of permanent crop fields in the Gaza Strip.

The conflict has resulted in significant human loss, with 1,205 deaths in Israel
and at least 41,615 deaths in Gaza, mostly civilians.

The UN’s satellite imagery analysis aids humanitarian efforts by assessing conflict-related damage and shaping emergency relief.

UNITAR’s Executive Director, Nikhil Seth, praised UNOSAT’s tireless work in providing precise insights into the conflict’s impact on Gaza’s infrastructure.
