2-day Inter College Chess Tournament for men, women commences at GCE Jammu

Jammu: A Two-day Inter College Chess Tournament 2024 for Men and Women was inaugurated today at the Government College of Education, Jammu under the supervision of Director Sports Cluster University of Jammu Dr. Vinod Bakshi. The event has drawn participation from various reputed institutions, including GGM Science College, Govt. MAM College, Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, PSPSGCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, and the host college. Competitions are being held in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The College Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar formally inaugurated the tournament with a warm welcome address. In her remarks, she motivated the players to participate with enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout the event.

The tournament was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests. Mohammad Zubair attended as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Vinod Bakshi was the Guest of Honour, and Dr. Jyoti Parihar served as the Special Guest. The event was organized under the guidance of the College Sports Committee, led by Ramandeep Kralia, Convener of the Sports Committee, with contributions from Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Dr. Shalini Rana, Prof. Priyanka Mahajan, Prof. Sarita Dogra and Dr. Sonam Gandotra. The entire proceedings of the event were skillfully conducted by Dr. Rakesh Bharti.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Prof. Satish Kumar, Neenu, Physical Director of MAM College, Ravi Kumar, Physical Director of SPMR College of Commerce, Kajal Premi, Physical Director of GCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Neelam Kumari, Assistant Physical Director of MAM College, Prof. Arun Sharma, and Prof. Arti Heer.  Shushil Kumar officiated the matches.

On the day one,   in the Men’s Section, GGM Science College triumphed over MAM College with a score of 3-0, while Government SPMR College of Commerce secured a victory against Government College of Education, Jammu, with a score of 3-0.

In the Women’s Section, GCW Gandhi Nagar defeated Govt. College of Education, Jammu, with a score of 3-1 and GGM Science College received a walkover against MAM College.

Similarly, GGM Science College beat Government SPMR College of Commerce with a score 3-2.

The tournament continues tomorrow, with more intense competition expected as the teams strive for victory.
