In an interview with Brut India, Kareena shared her experience of waiting endlessly for her first shot. “I waited all day, and then all night. At 3:45 am, the assistant director finally said, ‘Shot is ready’.”

Directed by JP Dutta, Refugee also launched Abhishek Bachchan’s career. Kareena, just 19 at the time, recalled her nerves and eagerness.

She revealed that JP Dutta’s directing style was unique. “He wouldn’t praise after a good take. He’d just say ‘Haan ji’ and move on.”

For her introduction scene, where she lifts her veil and asks “Paani milega?”, Kareena did just one take.

Concerned, she asked Dutta if it was okay. “He said, ‘Yeah, it’s fine. One take okay.’ Maybe I got spoiled by that,” she laughed.

Kareena’s latest project was The Buckingham Murders.
