Apni Party backs jailed Sarjan Barkati for Beerwah seat

Srinagar: In a bolder political move, the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party has chosen to throw its weight behind jailed Sarjan Barkati as the party’s candidate for the Beerwah assembly seat.

Altaf Bukhari, as per news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB), made this announcement while on a door-to-door campaign in the Baghat area of Srinagar, pointing to Barkati’s deep roots in the local community and his strong commitment to regional issues.

An activist by name, Barkati is in prison; that would no doubt impact on the campaign strategy of the party.

Bukhari’s support does ensure a very strong pitch by the Apni Party to the local voice and grassroot-level leadership.

The assembly elections will bring to limelight the effects the Barkati candidacy and his imprisonment will have on the Beerwah political scene.
