UT Level Badminton Competitions Witness Active Participation from 20 District Teams

Srinagar: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K, is currently hosting the Inter-District/UT Level Badminton Competitions for boys and girls of all age groups at the famous Indoor Sports Complex here. This large-scale event is attracting young badminton enthusiasts from across the Union Territory, with teams from all 20 districts of Jammu & Kashmir actively participating in the tourney.
The tournament, which is being held in phases, kicked off on Thursday, with the Under-14 boys’ category, the action continued as the competitions for the Under-17 boys began, showcasing the talent and sportsmanship of young players from various districts. The tournament will culminate on 28th of the current month.
The event was formally inaugurated by Mohammad Rashid Kohli, Joint Director Kashmir of the Department of YSS, in a ceremony held at the venue. Senior officials from the Department of Youth Services and Sports were also in attendance, adding to the significance of the occasion. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Kohli praised the dedication of the young participants and highlighted the importance of such competitions in promoting sports culture at the grassroots level.
“The level of enthusiasm and participation in such tournaments is truly commendable. These competitions provide a platform for our youth especially student players to not only display their sporting abilities but also to develop a sense of sportsmanship and healthy competition,” JD remarked during the inauguration. He further emphasized that sports play a vital role in shaping the physical and mental well-being of young athletes and urged the participants to give their best in every match.
Hosted by the District Youth Services and Sports Office, Srinagar, the tournament is being conducted in accordance with all the necessary safety and health protocols to ensure the well-being of participants, officials, and spectators. The organizers have ensured that all matches are played under professional supervision, with trained referees and technical staff overseeing the proceedings.
As the tournament progresses, attention will soon turn to the upcoming matches for girls and the Under-19 category, where more young players will get the chance to compete for the advanced competitions. The event is expected to witness some thrilling performances as the competition intensifies in the days leading up to the finals.
