New Delhi: Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has passed away at 72. He was being treated for a severe respiratory infection at AIIMS in New Delhi.
Born on August 12, 1952, in Chennai, Yechury was a well-known political figure who led the CPI(M) since 2015. His political career began in student politics at Jawaharlal Nehru University and included active involvement during the Emergency period. He also served multiple terms as a Rajya Sabha member.
