NIA Court grants interim bail to MP Rashid engineer to contest in J&K elections

Srinagar: Delhi’s special NIA court has granted interim bail to parliamentarian Rashid Engineer who is investigated in a terror funding case.

According to the news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB), the court has granted him bail up to October 2, 2024. It allows Engineer to contest in the forthcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

Engineer is an influential political figure accused of terror financing; however, he has pleaded not guilty, claiming the charges are politically motivated.

The decision to grant bail by the court symbolically defines how his role became critical in the regional political scenario as elections are a critical moment for Jammu and Kashmir post Article-370.
