Poonch: Mughal Road, connecting Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district with twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, was closed for vehicular traffic on Friday as a precautionary measure, officials said.

They said that the road was closed following a letter by R&B authorities to traffic police to shut the thoroughfare from Bufliaz side onwards “keeping in view the inclement weather and incessant rains”.

Moreover, the letter noted that due to incessant rainfall there is apprehension of shooting stones as well as occurrence of multiple slides.

In order to avoid any untoward incident and risk of life, it traffic authorities were requested to close the Mughal Road for vehicular movement till the weather improves. Subsequently, a senior traffic department officer told GNS that the throughfare has been closed.
