Despite No Evidence, I Respect Court’s Decision: Vikar Rasool on EC Notice

Srinagar: Stating that there is no evidence or witnesses against him in a case filed by the Election Commission, Senior Congress leader and Former JKPCC President Vikar Rasool on Friday expressed his respect for the court’s decision.

Speaking to reporters here at Banihal, Vikar said that the case dates back to his time as the All India General Secretary and MLA of the Youth Congress.

He said that during a rally in Uttar Pradesh in 2012, the Election Commission took notice of an event where people were seated in a school, which led to legal action.

He added that for 12 years after 2012, no further notices were issued. However, in 2024, another notice was served, and a case was filed. 13 people were charged, and 9 were fined Rs. 500, 1000, he added.

Vikar said that despite the legal complexities, the situation is not uncommon.

He also said that in Jammu and Kashmir, such cases often result in warnings, with fines being rare.

Vikar said that the case would be resolved soon, as it is now in a higher court, adding that there was no evidence or witnesses against him, though he respects the court’s decision.

The case has been bailed out, he said, and will likely be concluded in the coming days.(KNS)
