Srinagar: Amid growing anticipation for Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir fuelled by a spree of transfer and posting orders, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference taking a strong exception to the latter has termed the move a blatant attempt aimed at undermining integrity of the electoral process.
“Why has a massive reshuffle been ordered in the police and administration since last evening, and today morning, seemingly to preempt the Election Commission’s announcement? It appears to have been orchestrated by a BJP-appointed LG to benefit his party and its allies,” said the Party General Secretary, Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar in an ‘X’ post.
“This move seems clearly intended to undermine the integrity of the electoral process, which restricts such transfers to prevent the ruling party from gaining an undue administrative advantage over the opposition. The LG government has strategically shaken up the entire administrative setup compromising the principles of free and fair elections.”
“We call on the @ECISVEEP to thoroughly investigate this blatant attempt and to immediately suspend the implementation of these orders,” the post reads.
The Farooq Abdullah led political party has made the statement in the wake of multiple transfer and posting orders, since last evening, effecting a major rejig in police and civil administration.
Notably, the Election Commission of India will be announcing the assembly election schedule, later this afternoon, for several states including Haryana and Maharashtra.
It is expected that the poll body may be highly likely to announce the polls for Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as well.
