Human Trafficking racket Busted in Baramulla, Four Minor Girls Rescued

Baramulla: Police in Baramulla have successfully dismantled a human trafficking operating in Ushkura, rescuing four minor girls from Rohingya Burma.

In a statement issued to Asian Mail, a police spokesperson said, “The operation began with the arrest of Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Ushkura, who was allegedly involved in trafficking and exploiting young girls from outside the Union Territory. A subsequent raid at the home of Mehraj Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Kanli Bagh, led to the recovery of another victim and Tantray’s arrest. Tantray is suspected of having purchased one of the girls from Bhat.”

Both suspects are currently in custody, and police are actively investigating to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved in the trafficking ring. The case  FIR No. 173/2024 has been registered under relevant sections of law at the Baramulla Police Station.
