Omar Abdullah Slams Govt: Don’t Delay Elections, Don’t Bow to Militancy

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a jibe at the government, urging them not to delay elections in Jammu and Kashmir due to militant attacks. He emphasized that doing so would amount to bowing down to these forces.

“The situation of Jammu and Kashmir is being created. Is there normalcy? If there is, is the election possible? There is no normalcy, but is this situation worse than 1996? If this situation is worse than 1996, then don’t do the election,” Abdullah said.

He continued, “If you have to bow down in front of these powers, who are attacking you, then don’t do the election. If you have to prove the supremacy of militancy in comparison to the supremacy of your army and police, then don’t do the election.”

Abdullah stressed that the elections should be held on time, allowing the people of Jammu and Kashmir to decide for themselves.
He also announced a separate scheme and package for women in the upcoming elections, following the path shown by Madr-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah.

On the India team unlikely to go to Pakistan for ICC Champions trophy, Abdullah said bilateral cricket matches have been suspended for many years and that it is not a new development.

“If we want to build better relations between these two countries, then it is also the responsibility of Pakistan. The kind of attacks that are happening should not happen. The kind of environment that has been created should not be created,” Abdullah said. (KNS).
