Srinagar: Kounsar Jan from Chattabal has taken the wheels of change in her hands, becoming Srinagar’s pioneering female e-rickshaw driver. This remarkable achievement shatters gender barriers and paves the way for women to take on non-traditional roles in the region.

Kounsar’s journey is part of a larger eco-friendly transportation initiative, aiming to reduce pollution and provide a cost-effective mode of transport for residents and tourists. The e-rickshaws, powered by lithium batteries, offer a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel-based vehicles.

“I want to inspire other women to break barriers and pursue their dreams,” she asserted passionately.

Despite facing challenges, Kounsar remains steadfast. “I drive an auto-rickshaw for my family and neighbours, ,” she said. “Many women have taken my number and called me to take them to their destinations.”

When asked about her motivation, Kounsar emphasized the importance of family support. “I want to show the world that women can excel in any field, but they need support from their families, especially their husbands.”

Kounsar Jan’s remarkable journey is a testament to the potential for economic empowerment and environmental sustainability through innovative initiatives. She is an inspiration to women everywhere, proving that with courage and determination, anything is possible.
