Srinagar: Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla police stations are among the stations having registered cases under newly-adopted criminal law provisions, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In a Statement police official said that an FIR, bearing number 22/2024, was registered at the Chanapora police station, falling under jurisdiction of Sadder subdivision here.

Meanwhile the case, documented as FIR No. 143/2024, has been registered under Section 125(a) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. This sets a vital precedent for the implementation of the new criminal law framework and underscores the swift and decisive action taken by the Anantnag Police to uphold the law and ensure justice for all.
He said, “This development is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the District Police and the judiciary in harmonizing the legal framework, enhancing the efficacy of the justice system, and strengthening the rule of law in the district.”
Similarly, Baramulla Police has also registered the first FIR under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Kreeri, marking a significant milestone in the Kashmir Zone.
He said that the FIR No. 93/2024, filed under Sections 303(2) and 329(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, demonstrates the police’s commitment to combating illegal mining and upholding the law.
The new criminal law framework signifies significant advancements in India’s criminal justice system, aligning with global standards and prioritizing justice, accountability, and protection for all citizens.
