Earlier this week, Om Birla was re-elected as the Lok Sabha Speaker for a second consecutive term. The motion for his re-election, moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seconded by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was adopted by the House through a voice vote on Wednesday.

In his address, Birla emphasized the need for a new vision and resolve for the 18th Lok Sabha, calling for it to be a hub of creative thinking and innovative ideas. He stressed the importance of upholding parliamentary traditions and dignity, aiming to fulfill the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India).

Prime Minister Modi, congratulating Birla on his re-election, acknowledged the immense responsibility of holding this position for a second term during the “Amrit Kaal” (a period marking India’s 75th year of independence). He also lauded the decisions made during the 17th Lok Sabha under Birla’s leadership, calling it a golden period in parliamentary history.
