Two drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam, contraband substances recovered

Kulgam: Two drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession said an official on Tuesday.

A Police party of Police Station Qazigund during Naka checking at Shampora Crossing intercepted one suspicious person identified as Gowhar Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Salam Sheikh resident of Khargund. During search, 2.3Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance filled in the polythene bag was recovered.

Moreover, a police party of Police Post Mirbazar during patrolling at Manigam crossing intercepted one suspicious person identified as Mohd Abass Sheikh Son of Maqsood Ahmad Sheikh resident of Manigam. During search, officers were able to recover 115 grams of Charas like substance from his possession. Both the accused drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
