Sensex improves 78 pts

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex gained 78 points in the opening session on Thursday, following gains in financial services, FMCG, industrials, and Bankex stocks.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 40.15 points to 22037.85.

The Sensex registered intraday highs and lows at 72864.52 and 72497.19 pts, respectively.

The Nifty registered intraday highs and lows at 22,042 and 21917.5 pts, respectively.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.89 pc and the Small Cap by 1.58 pc.

In 30 scrips, 13 advanced while 17 declined.

The gainers were M&M by 1.83 pc to Rs 1887, Infosys by 1.35 pc to Rs 1633.45, L&T by 1.26 pc to Rs 3587.05 and Bharti Airtel by 0.97 pc to Rs 1180.50.

The losers were Tata Steel by 2.89 pc to Rs 138.35, JSW Steel by 2.64 pc to Rs 771.15, Tata Motors by 0.86 pc to Rs 964.65 and SBI by 0.76 pc to Rs 740.75.
