Israeli air strikes kill 3 militants, wound 4 civilians in Lebanon

Beirut: Israeli warplanes carried out three air strikes on a village in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, killing a Hezbollah fighter and two members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s al-Quds Brigades and wounding four civilians, Lebanese military sources said.

The sources, who requested anonymity, said the airstrikes hit the village of Aita al-Shaab, in the central sector of the border area, at Tuesday dawn.

Medical sources said rescue workers from the Civil Defense and the Islamic Health Authority used bulldozers and cranes to clear the rubble and transport the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.

The attack came as Hezbollah fighters fired a barrage of missiles at an Israeli air base on Mount Jarmaq in retaliation for Israel’s ongoing shelling of southeastern Lebanon.

The border region has been tense since Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah launched dozens of rockets at Israel in solidarity with Hamas, which had attacked Israel the day before. The clashes have claimed the lives of 320 people on the Lebanese side, including 216 Hezbollah fighters and 59 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
