PM Modi personally supervised the developments of Indian nationals’ case: Foreign Secy

New Delhi: Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said on Monday that the release of all the eight Indian nationals working for the Dahra Global company and detained in Qatar, was due to the personal supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the developments of the case.

Addressing the media here, the Foreign Secretary said, “The Prime Minister has personally supervised all the developments in this case and I can say, he has never shied away from any initiatives that would ensure the return of Indian nationals back to home”.

He said that all the eight Indians have been released and seven of them have already returned home. “The eighth Indian has also been released and we continue to work with the Qatar government to see how quickly his return to India would be possible,” Kwatra added.

On number of Indian prisoners in UAE, Qatar and in other countries, he said that one of the principal tasks is to keep working towards the early release of all the Indian prisoners irrespective of which country they are.

“The Indian Government has extensive mechanisms in place of consular dialogues and discussions involving the Indian system and the systems in those countries whose principal task is to keep working on the systems. There are also very established mechanisms and systems in place which ensures that whatever assistance wherever possible is to be made available to these prisoners is made available through the government mechanisms,” Kwatra said.

The Foreign Secretary said that these are the systems which have been strengthened enormously whose remit has been expanded extensively where strong support by the government has embedded in them. These have been put in place particularly in the last 10 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kwatra said that the inauguration of BAPS temple in one of the main part of the Prime Minister’s UAE visit. With regards to presence of people and the duration of the programme he said that the information will be made available soon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold several bilateral meetings with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other senior officials during his visit on February 14.
