Gujjar’s reservation shouldn’t be ignored: Omar Abdullah

Jammu: J&K former chief minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday said that Gujjar community should be given its due right and the reservation for the community shouldn’t be ignored. He was speaking to reporters in Jammu.

“NC has always supported and chased for reservation to Pahadi’s, but I want to say that the concerns of Gujjar’s should also be taken into account. Their reservation shouldn’t be ignored,”he said.
Notably Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill 2024. The historic bill aims at empowering (i) Pahari Ethnic Group, (ii) Padari Tribes, (iii) Koli and (iv) Gadha Brahmin by providing Scheduled Tribe status.
Omar while taking a dig at BJP said the saffron party possesses no courage to hold Parliamentary and Assembly elections simultaneously.
“Despite the abrogation of Article 370, the implementation of new laws, alterations in constituency boundaries through the delimitation process, reservations for various communities, leveraging religious sentiments, pumping in substantial amount of money, the BJP can still not muster the courage to conduct simultaneous Assembly and Parliament elections,” Omar said.
