Empowerment of women: DC Ganderbal inaugurates Sakhi Café run by SHGs at Mini Secretariat

Ganderbal: In a groundbreaking step towards fostering financial independence for women, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, inaugurated the pioneering ‘Sakhi Cafe,’ run by Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Jammu Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) at the Mini Secretariat in Ganderbal.

Situated within the Mini Secretariat premises, the Sakhi Cafe will be managed by women SHGs associated with JKRLM. It aims to provide services to the employees of the Mini Secretariat and create livelihood opportunities for women through the operation of the canteen.

These women from SHGs have undergone formal training provided by the Institute of Hotel Management under the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission.

The DC commended the efforts of the JKRLM team, recognizing it as an exemplary platform for rural women to achieve financial independence. He expressed satisfaction with JKRLM’s collaborative initiatives with various departments, providing SHG members with opportunities to showcase their skills.

District Programme Managers of JKRLM Ganderbal revealed that members from 10 Self Help Groups in the district, particularly from the tribal community, have been motivated and trained to run the canteen. JKRLM continues to implement diverse initiatives for the upliftment of rural women, encouraging Women SHGs to earn a dignified livelihood.

The ‘Sakhi Cafe’ stands as a testament to the commitment towards empowering women, not only providing a valuable service but also serving as a symbol of progress and equality in the district.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, ACR, CPO, ACD, and other district officers and officials.
