Two Drug Peddlers Arrested in Central, North Kashmir; Psychotropic, Contraband Substances Recovered

Srinagar: Two drug peddlers were arrested in separate cases in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal and north Kashmir’s Baramulla districts after recovery of psychotropic and contraband substances from their possessions, said police on Wednesday.

As per the news agency CNS, a police spokesperson said that they intercepted a truck, bearing Registration No.JK03H-8638, near the new Bus Stand Beehama and recovered 16 bottles of Codeine Phosphate in presence of Executive Magistrate First Class.

“The accused person has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Hassan Sofi, a resident of Saloora Ganderbal and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized on the spot,” police said.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 14/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been taken up, they said.

In north Kashmir’s Baramulla, police said that they established a checkpoint at Dani Syedan Uri and intercepted one person. “During his search, 9.46 kg of contraband Cannabis Powder-like substances was recovered from his possession,” they said.

The accused person has been identified as Noor Hussain Shah son of Mehboob Shah, a resident of Choolan Kalsan Uri. “He was arrested and shifted to Police Station Uri where he remains in custody.”

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at police Station Uri and investigations have been initiated, police added.
